Last Monday, 5 November, was Parihaka Day – you may have heard people and the media talking about it.
If you’d like to know more about the invasion of Parihaka, and the events before and after it, you can access the Waitangi Tribunal’s “The Taranaki Report – Kaupapa Tuatahi (WAI 143)” online. It’s a report I was involved in editing a number of years ago, and it’s a fascinating read, especially if your preference is for history and non-fiction reading. I certainly learned a lot while working on it.
Another excellent book to read is “Ask that Mountain: The Story of Parihaka”, by Dick Scott.
